Carex Bowles Golden

Striking golden grass from early Spring until late Autumn.

Description

Carex palustris aurea ‘Bowles Golden’ produces a mass of golden leaves, each outlined in palest lime-green.  It forms elegant weeping clumps useful for masking the edges. In Summer produces attractive tufted seed heads, held above the foliage. Supplied bare-rooted.

Top tip: Grows from tough dense, fibrous roots making it difficult to dig up and to divide without recourse to scissors. Can be difficult to propagate as divisions don’t always take.

Flowers: June/July coffee coloured stems topped with dark brown florets.

Height of plant: 20-30cm from crown

Propagation: Division of plants in February

How to plant:  Plant into a 5lt planting basket using heavy garden loam or Westland Aquatic Soil and place on a shelf in the pond.  Fill the planting basket to a depth so that the crown of the plant is level with the rim. Hold the plant securely and fill in with soil all around the roots, pressing the soil down very firmly until the planting crate is almost filled to the brim.  For aesthetic purposes, the soil can then be top dressed with no more than 1cm of pea gravel.

Recommended planting depth:  The planting depth for this plant measured from soil surface to water surface and not including any gravel dressing is  0-5cm.
