Cyperus eragrostis


American gallingale

This lime green sedge has tall, erect stems,  (24-30 in) in height. Long, thin, pointed leaves radiate from the top, similar to parasol ribs. Has large, spiky seed heads August to October.


Cyperus eragrostis has tall, spiky foliage and produces wonderful, decorative, spiky seed heads in Augus/September.

Top tip: Once established, these plants seed readily, so make sure to keep an eye out for the baby plants and dig them out while they’re still young.

Flowers: Insignificant

Height: 40–50 cm

Propagation: Readily seeds itself or you can easily divide an established plant.

Depth of water over the soil: 0-10cm

Planting: Plant into 5lt planting crate using heavy garden loam or Westland Aquatic Soil
